 About

It's been a challenging couple years for everyone and church staff are no exception. Liturgy Collective is a retreat gathering that first met in October of 2021 for pastors and musicians to gather for a few days of rest, connection and growth. We believe that discipleship takes many forms as we are encouraged through worship, ideas, and relationships. In a broken and often polarized culture, Liturgy Collective wants to celebrate the uniting truth of the Gospel as we gather to be formed by worship.

Rest. We had the opportunity to rest and worship together. We curated three worship services in varied liturgical and musical styles. Preaching pastors included Ryan Anderson, Scotty Smith, and Thurman Williams. Musicians included Samuel Metzger, Sandra McCracken, Ginny Owens, Melanie Penn, the SONUS Choir,  the Nashville Chamber Music Society, and a concert from Brian Blade and the Fellowship Band.

Connection. We are working to foster a community that can encourage and build each other up. Thursday night, we shared a conference dinner together at a local Nashville BBQ spot, and we had extended times of down time each day with old and new friends from across the country.

Growth. We had a tremendous lineup of speakers including Dr. Curt Thompson, Dr. Paul Lim, David Kim, Scott Sauls, Kevin Twit, Zac Hicks, Luke Brodine and more. Some of these topics included:

  • Longing, Beauty, & Community (Curt Thompson)

  • Serving in the Context of Feeling Weary (Scott Sauls)

  • Casting Vision to Counter Consumerism (Kevin Twit)

  • The Gift of Liturgy in Uncertainty (Clay Werner)

  • The Discipling Ministry of Planning and Leading Worship (Greg Wilbur)

  • Liturgy as Hospitality (Sandra McCracken)

We also polled church worship staff to create Q&A Panels that aimed to help address some of the current pain points for church worship staff. These panels addressed issues like Pastor/Musician Relationship, Worship and Technology and Leading in a Polarized Church Culture.

The 2021 Liturgy Collective gathering was held over a Thursday and Friday (October 21-22) in Nashville, TN. Conference registration includes access to all content, worship services, closing concert, conference dinner, and conference materials.

Concert

Brian - Fellowship Band.jpeg

The multi-talented Brian Blade has played alongside musical luminaries like Wayne Shorter, Joni Mitchell, Bob Dylan, and Seal. "I don't think there's another drummer in jazz who plays with as refined a touch, dynamics, and prismatic color as Blade does," says music critic and author Mark Stryker. We are excited to welcome Brian Blade & The Fellowship Band featuring Melvin Butler, Jon Cowherd, Myron Walden, and Doug Weiss!
